"Public hospital productivity growth justifies good salary increases for senior doctors"
"The government's triumphant announcement yesterday about increased public hospital productivity is justification for district health boards supporting good salary increases for senior doctors to help New Zealand compete against superior employment conditions overseas," said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.
"In our national collective agreement negotiations the DHBs have said the government has been concerned about productivity. But the government now has more up to date information allowing it to declare much improved productivity since 1999 and that 2005-06 was the busiest year on record for public hospitals."
"Senior doctors have been critical in the government's announced success and DHBs should recognise this with a positive salary offer when negotiations resume on 30 August," concluded Mr Powell.
