The Pasifika Centre and Hospital in Mangere, previously owned by Culverden Group Ltd, has been sold to Pacificare Trust.
Pacificare took over operation of the resthome and hospital from 16 August 2006 after the Director General of Health granted a three month certificate to Pacificare to provide Hospital Care (medical services and geriatric services) and Rest Home Care.
In April, the then Director General of Health cancelled the certification of Culverden Group Ltd because of its failure to satisfy the Director General that it met the relevant service standards required for the provision of such services. The Ministry and Culverden agreed to a conditional suspension of the cancellation until 12 June 2006.
A temporary manager, appointed by the Ministry of Health and the Counties Manukau District Health Board, has been managing the centre since March. This was in order to provide the Ministry and the DHB with a level of assurance about the care residents were receiving.
Deputy Director General Dr Colin Feek said the temporary manager would work with Pacificare over a transition period.
