Icon stamps promote 5+ A Day for children and families
2006 Children’s Health Stamps have gone on sale promoting the 5+ A Day healthy eating message.
The Children’s Health Stamps have become an icon of life in New Zealand since they were first issued by New Zealand Post
in 1929.
Five cents from the sale of each 45 cent stamp and 10 cents from each 90 cent stamp goes back to Children’s Health
Camps, which support some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children and equip them with the life skills and confidence
they need to overcome challenges in their environment and achieve positive life outcomes.
Children’s Health Camps Chief Executive Dr Fiona Inkpen says the theme for this year’s stamps is close to the heart of
Children’s Health Camps.
“Children’s nutrition is important to overall health and the best a parent can do for their children is to encourage
them to eat 5+ A Day and enjoy fun physical activities.”
Since the first Children’s Health Camp started in New Zealand in 1919, New Zealand’s seven camps have helped more than
250,000 Kiwi children and their families.
“The health stamps represent an opportunity for New Zealanders to support New Zealand children and families with
something as simple as sending a letter,” says Dr Inkpen.
Children and staff from Children’s Health Camps delivered fruit and vegetables to politicians at Parliament today to
mark the launch of the stamps. They were met by Health Minister Pete Hodgson.
