What Is The Vintners' Brunch?
The Vintners' Brunch was a concept developed in America. A few years ago Bill Spence of Matua Valley Wines obtained the rights for this event and brought it to New Zealand. For nine years, Matua Valley Wines has allowed the North Shore Hospice the exclusive privilege of using this event to raise funds. We have been given the opportunity again this year.
This is how it works. We invite twelve prominent Auckland Restaurants to provide an entree-size portion of their "signature dish" to tempt 400 guests. Out of the twelve participating Restaurants, one will prepare hors d'oeuvres, nine will prepare the entree type "main", one will prepare a dessert and a cheese company will provide the cheese.
All twelve dishes are then matched with a wine from twelve prominent New Zealand Wineries. All wines are donated by the very generous wineries.
On Sunday, 23rd July 2006, from 11.00am the guests will enjoy complimentary "bubbles" and hors d'oeuvres on arrival. They will then be seated at 12.00pm and we will have our very popular Food and Wine Critic, Mr Vic Williams host the entire event. His wealth of knowledge on food and wine is always entertaining.
After our sponsor has addressed the audience, everyone is then free to select the dishes and matching wines, in their own time, enjoying a leisurely day of eating and drinking.
We intend to have an auction during the day. Bayleys Group will present the auction.
Tickets for the Vintners' Brunch will be sold at $175.00 per person (or $1,750 per table) up to a maximum of 400 people. Each year we have a waiting list of people wanting to attend the event.

NORTH SHORE HOSPICE - WHO WE ARE
Hospice is a service and facility dedicated to providing the best possible quality of life for those with a terminal illness. Specialist doctors and nurses experienced in palliative and terminal care and counsellors work together with the patient and their family to relieve pain and provide physical, emotional and spiritual support during the final stages of a patient's life.
Ø North Shore Hospice was formed in 1983 by a group of concerned North Shore residents and is registered as a Charitable Trust governed by a Board of Trustees.
Ø North Shore Hospice provides a service to patients at home or in the In-patient Unit (IPU) located at 7 Shea Terrace, Takapuna.
Ø North Shore Hospice also has 600 volunteers involved in every area of Hospice life; including homecare volunteers who give caregivers a break, companions for patients, IPU and front desk receptionists, kitchen help, Hospice shop assistants, gardeners and, of course, fundraising and events volunteers.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
It costs North Shore Hospice $3.5 million annually to provide this service, completely free of charge, to our patients including support for their families. The Waitemata District Health Board funds 50% of our costs, which leaves a shortfall of almost $1.8 million for us to fundraise.
