HBDHB calls for Requests for Proposals for Integrated Laboratory Services
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) chief executive, Chris Clarke, announced today that the DHB is calling for
Requests for Proposals from community laboratories keen to work in partnership with the Hawke's Bay Hospital Laboratory
to improve the way pathology services are provided to Hawke’s Bay people.
“Following on from the September 2005 Commerce Commission rejection of the proposed merger in Hawke’s Bay of Southern
Community Laboratories and Medlab, the Board has had to rethink its future contracting approach.
“We have not lost sight of our vision to provide comprehensive and integrated laboratory services for the people of
Hawke’s Bay, while at the same time ensure future clinical and financial sustainability. Current arrangements were not
sustainable for the long term,” Chris Clarke said.
“Achieving an effective partnership between the hospital and community laboratory services will have enormous benefits
for the health of our community over the next five to ten years.”
Details of the ‘Request for Proposal for a Strategic Partner for the Provision of Community Laboratory Services’ is
available on HBDHB’s website www.hawkesbaydhb.govt.nz or from Sue Ward, phone (06) 878 8109.
Closing date for proposals is 4:00pm, Wednesday 2 August 2006.
