Snowmaking Starts at Mt Hutt
Superb early winter conditions at Canterbury's Mt Hutt have led to an early
start to the ski area's snowmaking programme.
Ski area manager David Wilson says cold temperatures and early snow have
provided an excellent start to the pre season build up.
"We have spent the last couple of weeks installing snow guns and getting the
systems ready to operate and were really excited to fire up the system late
on Friday afternoon."
Mr Wilson says snowguns were blasting out snow for 16 hours on Friday night.
"We've got 20-30 cms of snow on all main trails so far and are looking
forward to the best start to the season for many years."
Mt Hutt is scheduled for a June 10 opening day.
Snowmaking has been positioned to allow maximum enjoyment of last year's
developments which included the installation of the six-seater high speed
Summit Six chairlift allowing rapid access to the top of the mountain, a
dedicated novice area complete with a perfectly graded 1.2km novice trail
and a new magic carpet providing easy access to the slope for beginners.
