Tauranga appointee brings PR skills to RDA
Tauranga Riding for the Disabled (RDA) has appointed writer and public relations specialist Lance Morcan (57) to spearhead its campaign to raise $1.4 million for a much-needed indoor equestrian centre at its Welcome Bay headquarters.
Morcan, who is also a novelist and screenwriter with a number of film and television scripts currently in development offshore, has a background in PR and journalism. A family man, he’s a long-time resident of Tauranga.
Announcing the appointment this week, Tauranga RDA president Betty Blundell says the association sees Morcan’s appointment as a major step toward securing the indoor facility it so urgently needs.
“At present, our 120 disabled clients and the wonderful volunteers who support them have to endure all weather conditions because, unlike some other RDA centres, we have no suitable facility,” says Betty.
“With the assistance of a Tauranga benefactor, we already have architectural plans in place for a wonderful indoor centre that will allow us to stage fully-fledged equestrian events as well as accommodate our own riders.”
Morcan says he is looking forward to the new challenge ahead of him.
“Tauranga businesses and residents are known for their generosity in supporting worthwhile causes and I’m confident they’ll support this one,” he says.
“RDA is a truly worthwhile organisation, manned mostly by volunteers who give up their time to work with the disabled. Our clients have all manner of disabilities and range from accident victims and the intellectually disadvantaged to asthmatics and cerebral palsy sufferers.”
Morcan says first up he plans to canvass the local business community for its support and would welcome any enquiries
