Access PHO Forum: Making a Difference
Access Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) are small but significant contributors to the progression of the Primary
Health Care Strategy.
From Thursday 27 April to Friday 28 April 2006, Healthcare Aotearoa, Te Matarau and the Maori-led PHO Reference Group
are hosting an Access PHO Forum “Making a Difference”, at the Wellington Town Hall in Wellington.
This health innovation forum is for Access and like focused PHOs and providers including those who deliver services to
Maori and Pacific and high need communities.
Topical discussions on the agenda include:
- Sustainable Management
- Governance and Community Ownership
- Reducing Disparities
- Community Collaboration
The Forum will be opened by Dr Karen Poutasi, Director General, Ministry of Health and Ria Earp, Deputy Director General
(Maori Health), Ministry of Health and will include keynote presentations by:
- David Jansen, GP and Consultant Mauri Ora Associates, speaking on “Balancing Key Relationships for PHOs”;
- Simon Royal, Waiora Healthcare PHO, speaking on “High Performance PHOs”.
The lessons and insights from this forum will add value to health outcomes and service delivery approaches for Access
PHOs by increasing the visibility and voice of small PHOs, improving access to services and cross sectorial approaches
to health, as well as reducing barriers.
Balancing relationships in the community is key for Access PHOs, however the challenge is finding the win:win resolution
while maintaining mana whenua/tangata whenua responsibilities.
