Cancer Society Herceptin Statement
In light of the recent media coverage over the access of women with early stage breast cancer to the drug Hercpetin, the Cancer Society of New Zealand has released a statement on its position.
Chief Executive Neil Chave says, “The Cancer Society supports the view that all New Zealanders should have access to the very best possible treatment available for their condition.
“The Cancer Society is pleased to acknowledge the progress of the drug approval process for Herceptin in New Zealand.”
The Society recognises there are issues in relation to the funding of the drug but nevertheless reiterates its belief that everyone in this country has the right to the treatment which gives them the best health outcome achievable.
