Newtown Festival 2006 - Mental Health Expo
OVER LOADED / STRESSED OUT?
Maybe we can help!
The South East and City Primary Health Organisation (SECPHO) along with support from the Wellington City Council,
Capital and Coast District Health Board and the Community are again undertaking its Annual Mental Health Expo to be held
on Friday the 3rd March 2006 in conjunction with the Newtown Festival.
The first expo was held last year with over 30 organisations and providers participating by having stalls and all day
entertainment, the day was a huge success and a decision was made to make this an annual event.
Mental Health involves us all, not just those diagnosed with severe illness. 50% of us at some time will suffer from
anxiety or depression, a mental heath issue. Often mental health work is done informally by talking with friends and
family or from spiritual advisors or teachers. When these avenues are not enough, there is a range of mental health
workers in primary and secondary care that can offer support and advice. The Expo brings together many of these workers
to liaise and network with each other, some for the first time.
We hope this year that more community members and individuals will come and see the range of services for available for
improving and maintaining our mental health. This is a positive and vibrant collection of experienced workers and
services in mental health. Improving how we liaise and work together and connect with our local community will enrich
and benefit us all.
This year’s event will be held on Friday 3rd March 2005 at PIPC Church on the corner of Daniell and Constable Streets in
Newtown between 10am and 2pm. Everyone is welcome.
