Seriously Injured Woman Transported By Wellington's Westpac Rescue Helicopter
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to help a seriously injured woman in Marlborough late last
night.
The helicopter, with two Wellington Free paramedics onboard, was sent to the one car accident in Waihopai Valley around
11:40pm.
When we arrived the Marlborough Ambulance Service, Blenheim Police and local (Wairau Valley I believe) fire brigade were
all on the scene. The 23 year old Blenheim woman had been extricated from the car by the fire service and was being
treated by Marlborough Ambulance staff.
"The emergency services on the scene were extremely helpful" says Westpac Rescue Helicopter pilot Harry Stevenson. "The
ambulance communications staff gave us a very good GPS position to fly to and the fire service lit up our landing area
so that landing in the field was much easier than it could have been".
It appears the car the woman was a passenger in rolled over at least once, ending up upright. The driver was unhurt and
being spoken to by Police.
The Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics continued treating the woman while transporting from the scene back to
Wellington Hospital. The woman was suffering from head and spinal injuries and her condition worsened enroute to
hospital.
She is currently being assessed and treated in Wellington Hospital.
