Headline:
Board game publisher predicts upsurge if 'bird flu' spreads.
Summary:
New Zealand board game publisher, Matt Taylor, has attributed the increase of his companies sales of the board game Breakscore® to community fears over ‘bird flu’. Visitor numbers to the company’s web site www.breakscore.com have been increasing with on-line sales higher than expected. "The company is extremely pleased with the increase in orders, the most recent coming from Finland, Brunei, Tahiti, the United Kingdom, and the USA. "Families will no doubt spend more time at home as ‘bird flu’ fears increase", say Taylor, "obviously families will need to have something different to do as traditional community activities become unsafe".
Body:
New Zealand board game publisher, Matt Taylor, has recently attributed the increase in sales of his family board game Breakscore® to community fears over the spread of 'bird flu'. Government agencies have been advising families to be prepared to spend up to three weeks at home, having sufficient food, water, medical supplies and other essentials on hand to wait out what many have said to be the ‘inevitable pandemic’.
Taylor says, "I've noticed a marked increase in internet orders since all the widespread publicity about 'bird flu'. I think people are preparing to spend more time away from traditional community activities and Breakscore® being a board game that everyone can play, fits the bill for those long nights at home with the family."
There are many activities that families can amuse themselves with if they find themselves isolated in their homes for weeks on end. DVD’s, books, computer games, toys, and decorating projects to name are but a few, but there are not many better ways to spend ‘quality time’ altogether with the family than the traditional family classic table top board game.
Taylor, like everyone else, hopes that the virus doesn't mutate so that it can be transferred from person to person but, according to health officials the chance is high that it will. "If that happens" says Taylor, "traditional community activities will become unsafe and board games may well return to their previous popularity as families spend more time in each others company".
Breakscore® is a board game suitable for young and old alike and is available to order on-line from Breakscore.com and can be air-posted world-wide. "At least board games aren't reliant on electricity, batteries, or phone connections if services are disrupted" says Taylor. "We may all end up being scared but at least we won't be bored!"
