Commitments To Transport Inquiry Need Immediate Action
Recommendations from the Human Rights Commission’s inquiry into Accessible Public Land Transport should be actioned
immediately, says National Assembly of People with Disabilities (DPA) President Mike Gourley.
DPA says the report vindicates disabled people’s claims of discrimination in public transport. However, the report also
contains useful recommendations to address the discrimination.
“We are buoyed up by the fact that there appears to be buy-in from transport providers to support the implementation of
the recommendations,” says Mike Gourley.
“The development of a set of national standards, provision of awareness training and making information accessible will
all contribute to making public transport accessible to everybody, including disabled people,” he says.
