The Baby Café – Hawke’s Bay: moved to The Cottage, HB Hospital
The Baby Café, a free drop-in centre where new parents can get free expert breast-feeding advice has outgrown its current premises in Warwick Road Hastings. They’ve moved to The Cottage at the corner of Omahu and Canning Roads, Hastings – on the Hawke’s Bay Hospital campus.
To coincide with the move, The Baby Café has introduced new extended hours. It’s now open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Parents are welcome to call in with their baby and toddlers, and receive free expert breastfeeding advice from the District Health Board’s lactation consultants, in a family-friendly supportive environment.
The Baby Café – Hawke’s Bay, opened in Hastings last year and can help and support mothers through the challenges of breast-feeding…from pregnancy to weaning. Their free drop-in service allows mothers to visit as often as needed during this time. The Hastings Baby Café was the first Baby Café to be established outside the United Kingdom.
Katie Askew said the Baby Café service team were very appreciative of the support provided by HBDHB in enabling the Baby Café to make use of The Cottage. “We hope the new location and times will further increase the number of clients using the service. This new location is just down the road from the Napier-Hastings expressway, so we are hopeful more Napier mums will make use of the free service.
“With us being on the hospital grounds, there’s also opportunity for new mums to walk across and check us out before they leave hospital,” Katie Askew said.
