New CEO for Medical Council announced
The Chair of the Medical Council, Professor John Campbell today announced the appointment of Philip Pigou, as the Council’s new chief executive officer.
Mr Pigou is currently general manager of the South Island Shared Services Agency which works to foster collaboration and provide planning and funding advice to the DHBs in the South Island. Prior to that Mr Pigou was responsible for implementing national change strategies for the Health Funding Authority
“I believe Philip will make an outstanding CEO for the Council. His wealth of health experience together with his knowledge and understanding of the health sector will be vital to us in the coming years,” said Professor Campbell.
Mr Pigou has extensive experience in health and management and has served in a wide variety of roles in the health, courts, and housing sectors. He has a law degree and a diploma in business studies.
Professor Campbell said Mr Pigou would take up his new position in mid November.
Mr Pigou replaces Ms Sue Ineson who is leaving the Council to manage her own consulting business that will focus on health issues.
