New president for New Zealand Nurses Organisation
Members of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation have elected a new president, current vice president Marion Guy.
NZNO has nearly 40,000 members who are nurses, midwives, health assistants and caregivers.
Marion Guy works in primary health care as a practice nurse and in Tauranga Hospital’s emergency department, and has
nearly 30 years nursing experience. She is also an elected member of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
Marion Guy wants to see the momentum built on NZNO’s campaign for fair pay in public hospitals. NZNO is currently
campaigning for pay parity for members in primary health and aged care with members in public hospitals.
Marion Guy said equally important goals for NZNO members were safe staffing and professional development.
“NZNO should be the leading voice for nurses on all issues, including fair pay, education, health policy formation and
safe staffing,” she said.
Out-going NZNO president Jane O’Malley wished Marion Guy every success in advancing the goals of nurses, midwives and
care givers for the benefit of all New Zealanders.
Jane O’Malley has been NZNO president for four years and was at the helm when 20,000 public hospital nurses achieved
their historic fair pay settlement early this year.
