NEW APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
August 2005
International Appointment for Global Health Initiative
General Manager of United Fresh NZ Inc and the 5+ A Day programme in New Zealand, Paula Dudley has been elected Vice Chairperson of the newly formed International Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (IFAVA) aimed at improving global health through increased fruit and vegetable consumption.
Initiated during the New Zealand hosted WHO 5 A Day Symposium held in Christchurch last year, the International Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (IFAVA) will work internationally to ensure consistency across the fruit and vegetable health promotion platform. With one of the objectives being WHO accreditation of the Alliance.
“The New Zealand Ministry of Health’s Healthy Eating Healthy Action Strategy strongly supports the need to increase fruit and vegetable consumption for better health and well being. It is a field that 5+ A Day has been working towards for the last 11 years, “ says Ms Dudley. “We are delighted that we shall be playing an international role, helping other countries to initiate 5 A Day programmes whilst strengthening our local work by accessing international examples of best practices. It will also provide us with the latest scientific research which we can feed back to our own national Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (FAVA).”
The launch of the new IFAVA will take place at the 18th International Congress of Nutrition to be held in Durban, South Africa from 19 –24 September, 2005.
