CDHB Health Workers Rally For Government Funding
“CDHB health workers will rally at lunchtime today (Wednesday 17th August) outside the Christchurch Hospital to show
their support for their 30% catch-up claim for all health workers,” said Lynda Boyd, Organiser of the National Union of
Public Employees (NUPE) today.
“The health workers are supporting both their coming five day strike (29 August to 2 September) and the one day strikes
of Public Service Association colleagues who have planned nationwide strikes on 22nd and 29th August.”
“Yesterday NUPE Clinical Psychologists in Wellington also announced that they are taking strike action for a week
between 29 August to 2 September. They are negotiating for catch-up pay increases in line with Doctors and Nurses who
have already obtained deserved and substantial increases,” said Lynda Boyd.
“Our argument is with the Government rather than the Boards,” said Lynda Boyd. “The Government needs to put the funding
into significant pay rises particularly at the lower paid end. Clerical workers in particular are paid below the poverty
line. ”
Rally: 12.15 to 12.45 17th August outside Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department.
