General practice should be policy priority
The IPA Council says yesterday’s statement on the value of general practice released by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice, should become a foundation stone for policy development.
IPA Council Chairman Dr Doug Baird said his organization gave its “strongest possible support” to the Value Statement as a basis for health sector policy formation in the future.
“These principles embody the value of general practice in the lives of ordinary New Zealanders.
“The greatest risk to the primary care of New Zealanders is where some of the values are not a current policy priory.
“We strongly support this Statement because the values are seen in the health care given to New Zealanders by organized general practice every day,” Dr Baird said.
