GLASSONS HAND OVER ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S BIGGEST SINGLE DONATIONS
To Breast Cancer Research Trust
Booming sales of this year's Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust T-shirt campaign have resulted in one of the country's biggest single donations ever to be made to charity!
Today Glassons announced it had raised a record $760,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Trust through this year's campaign which saw New Zealand's top designers join forces to create six unique t-shirt designs.
According to Glassons Group Managing Director, Cliff Kinraid, in excess of 75,000 t-shirts have sold throughout the country, an unprecedented number that represents 50% growth on last year's sales.
"Since the campaign's inception three years ago, we've raised a staggering $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Trust," says Mr Kinraid. "It's a phenomenal response from New Zealanders and we're naturally thrilled with the results."
Money raised from this year's campaign will go far to enable the BCRT to rapidly progress their research programme in collaboration with a leading medical research centre.
"We can now support breast cancer researchers and projects New Zealand wide and speed up the battle to fight the epidemic rate of breast cancer in New Zealand women of all ages," says BCRT chairperson, Mimi Lloyd.
"The new research projects will be in addition to the work of our current research fellow Dr Nicole McCarthy, whom we brought on board thanks to the money raised from last year's campaign."
"At the core of the Trust's programme will be the creation of New Zealand's first chair in breast medicine."
"We are enormously grateful to Glassons and the group of designers who generously donated their designs to support our cause and help all New Zealand women."
Karen Walker, Zambesi, Trelise Cooper, Huffer, Tanya Carlson and Kate Sylvester created this year's designs - and at just $29.95 a t-shirt, New Zealand women were able to purchase an affordable designer piece.
Glassons donated $10 from every sale to Breast Cancer Research Trust.
New Zealand has one of the world's highest breast cancer rates with the disease affecting one in 10 women and claiming 600 lives every year.
