CHARITY Health Rally Supported By Concert Goers
“Most of the concert goers at the fund raiser for the Christchurch Charity Hospital expressed their support for the actions of Health Cuts Hurt who held a fun rally outside,” Eleanor Carter Spokesperson of Health Cuts Hurt said today.
She was commenting on Friday night’s Health Cuts Hurt rally which saw about 15 supporters dressed in “Downstairs” gear, as a reminder that Government under funding of Canterbury health was the reason the concert fund raiser was required.
“Between 6.30pm and 8pm, downstairs dressed maids, beggars, wenches left with child, old soldiers, chimney sweeps, Nurse Florence (and even a friar and undertaker for those paupers who did not make it), called out “charity sir” to the music of an accordion player. The mild evening gave the event a soft edged carnival atmosphere as the dressed up of Christchurch arrived for the 8pm concert at the town hall,” said Eleanor Carter
“But even if our message was expressed softly and we left at 8pm so as not to disrupt the concert, Health Cuts Hurt was there to remind of what happened in the 19th Century and to ensure that as generous as Cantabrians are, this is not seen as a long term solution to Government under-funding of health.”
“Many of the concert goers tried to give donations to Health Cuts Hurt but they were directed to contribute inside the concert,” said Eleanor Carter.
