Woman’s Day presents $30,000 to New Zealand Red Cross
New Zealand’s number one selling women’s magazine has presented a $30,000 (NZD) donation to New Zealand Red Cross to
assist with their relief effort for the Boxing Day Tsunami. In early January, the magazine committed to donating 10
cents for every copy of Woman’s Day sold in the two week period from 17 to 30 January.
The $30,000 donation was presented by Woman’s Day editor Megan McChesney to Patrick Cummings, Red Cross Northern
Regional Director, at ACP Media’s Auckland office.
“The images of families torn apart by the Boxing Day Tsunami really resonated with our readers, many of whom have
families of their own. We felt this was one way that they could help people in affected countries who are trying to
rebuild their lives,” says Ms McChesney.
“The work of the New Zealand Red Cross providing relief for victims of the Tsunami has been incredible and we’re
extremely proud to be able to present this donation to them on behalf of our readers.”
The Red Cross offers support for people in need all over the world through disaster response, development programmes,
emergency management and community services. “Financial assistance is a key way that we can contribute to the Red Cross’
remarkable work,” says Ms McChesney.
