Media release from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners
National standard needed
Kiwis should be able to count on necessary after hours medical help – no matter where they live, says the College of GPs.
The College supports the Ministry of Health announcement late on Friday of a health sector working party to look into after-hours issues, and looks forward to meaningful involvement in the issue.
College deputy president Dr Jonathan Fox said national leadership was needed to ensure that the current problems were overcome.
”The College has been researching the issue and working on developing a quality framework that supported the workforce to provide quality patient care,” he said. Key issues were those of timely access to appropriate care, and of continuity of care for New Zealanders and their families.
