Work to start on sealing gravel carpark at HB Hospital, Omahu Road
Work starts on Monday 11 October on an estimated five-week project to seal Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s Omahu Road car park.
The first phase will see concrete nibs formed around the perimeter of the car park. The sealing will then be completed in two stages – the rear half (closest to the Maori Health Unit) followed by the front half (closest to the Hospital Main Entrance).
Facilities manager, Tony McKee said the staged approach would mean that at least half of the car park would be operational for the duration of the project. He said there may be the occasional day when the entire car park would be closed off, to allow for power cables to be laid for new lighting.
“Drainage was recently installed, which has stopped the flooding problems we were having, and once sealed it will make life much easier for people to make their way to the hospital or outpatient clinics,” Tony McKee said. “Once complete, this park will provide 140 car parks for patients and visitors, and is part of an overall revamp of the hospital’s parking areas which will eventually see a total of 1000 on-site car parks.
