New Option For Migraine Sufferers
Nurofen has good news for the 350,000 New Zealanders who suffer from migraine[1], with the launch of its first pain
reliever specifically for migraine pain.
Mr Lloyd Price, Nurofen sales and marketing manager, says "Migraine affects a large number of New Zealanders and we are
pleased to be able to offer our first treatment specifically for migraine pain. Migraines are excruciatingly painful and
can be absolutely debilitating. When you feel a migraine coming on all you want is a treatment you can access quickly
and rely on to act fast.
"Nurofen Migraine Pain contains ibuprofen lysine, which dissolves quickly to bring rapid relief from migraine pain. A
fast acting treatment is important because the stomach finds it more difficult to absorb a medicine as the migraine
progresses."
Lorraine Balfour, ex-chair of the New Zealand Migraine Sufferers Support Group[2], says "A fast-acting, non-prescription
option, like Nurofen Migraine Pain, is a new option for migraine sufferers. With Nurofen Migraine Pain, sufferers can
tackle a migraine quickly, at the first sign of symptoms. Common symptoms apart from headaches include greater
sensitivity to bright light, movement and sound, nausea, and visual disturbances such as flashing lights or blind spots.
"Migraine symptoms can be induced by a number of factors and knowing these triggers can help when trying to prevent
migraine headache. People who are stressed, tired or anxious can be more likely to suffer a migraine. Diet and lifestyle
can also play an important role, for example, skipping meals, drinking red wine, and consuming certain foods like
cheeses or chocolate can trigger migraine headaches in some people."
Migraine headaches can affect anyone at any stage in life, and are more common in women than men. Migraine pain can be
difficult to define, with attacks lasting from a few hours to days, and can occur rarely or as frequently as every few
days.
