Nurse Maude Committed to Maintain Patient Care
The Nurse Maude Association is preparing a contingency plan to ensure essential care is provided to patients, during the proposed strike action by its union nurses on August 30.
Nurse Maude General Manager Corporate Services Anushiya Ayingaran says the Association received formal notification of industrial action from the New Zealand Nurses Organisation today.
Nurses that are members of the NZNO union, who work in the Association’s Hospital and Hospice, will strike from 8am to 12.30pm on Monday August 30. District nursing staff will strike from 8am to 1pm on the same day.
“We are disappointed that this situation has developed. We have organised for mediation on August 19 and are hopeful that this will be successful as we are genuine in our endeavours to settle the contract,” Mrs Ayingaran says.
Mrs Ayingaran says “Patient care is the Association’s first priority. We will be prepared and are now finalising contingency plans to ensure that essential care will be provided,” she says.
“We will do all we can to prevent any inconvenience to our patients, their families-whanau and our staff.”
If the proposed strike action occurs, it will only affect the nursing service. For all other Nurse Maude services, it will be business as usual.
