Families Set To Directly Benefit From Fight For Life
The Meningitis Trust pledges its commitment to supporting those who have suffered meningitis and meningococcal disease
throughout New Zealand, following a cash injection of $833,000 from the Schick Quattro Fight for Life event.
General Manager of the Meningitis Trust, Fiona Colbert said
“We are overwhelmed by the public support we have received and want to thank everyone who donated to the Fight for Life
appeal. This money will enable us to extend the reach and range of the services we provide. This includes increasing
education and awareness of the signs and symptoms of this disease as well as providing more support on the ground. We
will also be able to begin awarding financial grants to sufferers, allowing us to offer financial as well as emotional
support to help people rebuild their lives after meningococcal disease. For the Meningitis Trust this was a priceless
opportunity for us to reach such a huge number of people and educate them on the signs and symptoms of this devastating
disease.”
The Meningitis Trust was chosen as the benefiting charity for this year’s event in order to raise awareness of a disease
that claims many lives. Event Organiser Dean Lonergan said. “New Zealand has one of the highest rates of meningococcal B
in the world and we were determined to do something to educate the public and save lives, every one of us is proud to
have been involved in this project.”
Meningitis Trust Patron Kevin Milne was able to attend the event and meet some of those whose lives have been touched by
this disease and who will directly benefit from the funds raised.
