Managers Cut And Run
''Twenty eight Clinical Records staff at Christchurch Public Hospital who were told exactly two weeks ago by CDHB General Manager, Jim Magee that their jobs were to be disestablished have now seen both Mr Magee and the HR Manager Michael Jamieson, who announced the proposal, cut and run from the Hospital’s employment,'' said Nadine Marshall, Secretary of the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) today.
She was commenting on the CDHB announcement that Jim Magee had advised of his resignation with effect from 20 August 2004.
“As the Board has said, ‘It is important that there is minimum disruption to the ongoing management of services at the hospital’. Staff in the Clinical Records Department had totally lost confidence in Mr Magee and the Department’s morale is in tatters after he announced a proposal which sacked twenty eight staff to cut costs following criticism at the July Board meeting.”
“Half of the staff were to be reappointed to new jobs. But given that the methodology of the proposal had never been trialled and it changed the responsbililty for records to the users (ie nurses and doctors), our Union believes the proposal should be stopped immediately,” said Nadine Marshall.
“Our Union calls on the CDHB’s Executive Director of Nursing, Mary Gordon who will be acting as the hospital’s general manager to step in and stop the proposal and restore morale and confidence in this vital Department,” said Nadine Marshall.
