Outcome of mental health nurses’ ballot
PSA mental health nurses at Waikato and Lakes district health boards voted to accept their employers’ latest offer, but
Bay of Plenty mental health nurses voted not to, PSA organiser Ron Berry said today.
“Following mediation last week, we put the employers’ revised offer to our members, the outcome of which was strong
endorsement by Waikato and Lakes, but not so by our members in the Bay of Plenty. Those members will now meet tomorrow
to consider their options.”
Ron Berry said mediation followed a six-day strike by PSA mental health nurses working at the three DHBs, when a
protracted negotiation process for a multi-employer collective agreement (MECA) broke down.
“Our members are seeking recognition for the particular stresses, recruitment problems, and experience required for
working in this profession”.
