Treatment Works Week Wednesday 23rd June 2004
News headlines today are full of stories about the horrors of alcohol and drug abuse. We are hearing and watching
stories about what is seen as a ‘P’ (methamphetamine) epidemic – broken homes, mutilation, misery and far too often
death.
But what about another side to the story? The many people who have turned their lives around and the organisations that
have been integral in that process!
To right this imbalance the successes of treatment are being highlighted in Treatment Works Week Monday June 21 to
Friday June 25. Events will be taking place all around New Zealand.
One of the bigger Treatment Works Week events in Auckland is an Alcohol and Drug Services Expo held in Mangere. There
will be a very large number of Alcohol and Drug services attending from across the entire Auckland region. Staff will be
available from each service to give out information and answer questions. There will be cultural performances from
Alcohol and Drug services as well as speakers who are very experienced in their fields.
The Expo will be held at the at the Moana Nui A Kiwa Leisure Centre Mangere (Cnr of Waddon Pl & Mascot Ave) from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday June 23 . MORE…
Organised by Community Alcohol & Drug Services (CADS) this event is partly funded by Alcohol Drug Association (ADA) and the Alcohol Advisory Council of
New Zealand (ALAC).
Members of the public are very welcome to attend. CADS have also sent invitations to many community groups from the
Auckland region.
