Children Discharged From Hospital
With the exception of one child, all the children who were admitted to Christchurch hospital at noon today following a chlorine incident at Park View primary school, have now been discharged.
Dr Paul Gee, the Emergency Specialist at Christchurch hospital said a short time ago, that 16 children and three adults had been admitted. The children were aged between 8 and 12 years. They had been kept in the hospital under observation. The child who was still in hospital would probably be discharged later today.
‘With so many children coming in at the same time, we activated our disaster plan which worked extremely well,’ Dr Gee said. ‘Some of the children went for observation to the Children’s Acute Assessment ward and others were kept in the Emergency Department’s observation area. The hospital’s team of social workers were here to help parents and care givers.’
‘We had plenty of offers of help from other hospital departments, and everyone did a tremendous job in a short space of time.’
