CANADIAN BABYWALKER BAN DESERVES A KIWI BOUQUET
Baby walkers, a major cause of head injuries and broken limbs in young children, are now banned from sale, advertising
or importation in Canada and Plunket is applauding the decision.
"In New Zealand we strongly advocate against the use of baby walkers. Many people do not realise how dangerous they can
be and tend to use them as a convenient baby-sitting tool," says Plunket's Child Safety Adviser, Sue Campbell.
"The Canadians deserve a Kiwi bouquet."
"Baby walkers do not help a child develop. A child should be able to crawl, stand, walk, and begin exploring at their
own pace and not be forced into dangerous situations.
Plunket has long- advocated that baby walkers should not be used. It is important that parents and care-givers realise
the danger they are placing their young children in.
