New Guinness Book Record Attempt
The most sms messages sent to a single number in a 24 hour period
Osteoporosis New Zealand is calling on all Kiwi's to help reach new heights in texting and achieve a new World Record. Osteoporosis NZ is the official charity for the TXT Drive competition, where a $44,000 Peugeot is given away daily.
The record attempt will run for three consecutive days - Monday 29, Tuesday 30, and Wednesday 31 March.
Executive Director of Osteoporosis New Zealand, Julia Gallagher said today that they were aiming at a target of 3 million calls.
She said, "To incentivise entrants, if we reach 3 million texts in any single day, bonus prizes will be drawn - five prizes of $10,000 from the pool of Monday to Wednesday's entrants.
"There's 2 million cellphones in this country, so that means at least three texts per phone. The calls cost 99 cents, but given that Osteoporosis NZ gets a percentage of that - it's being charitable and having the chance to win big!
"TxtDrive thought that this would be a great idea to get the phones ringing to help out Osteoporosis NZ - we don't get much assistance because the condition it isn't "cool" or "trendy" but is just as deserving of support - so come on NZ!"
