Equal Spoonful Glass Jars Recalled
Merisant Australia Pty Ltd is recalling all 40 gram glass jars of Equal Spoonful sweetener across New Zealand.
The glass jars have Best Before dates all days of February 2006 and March 2006 on the base.
The proactive recall is a precautionary measure and follows the reported discovery of glass fragments in five jars in Australia. Altogether 115,000 of the 40 gram and 80 gram Equal Spoonful glass jars have been distributed in Australia since August 2003. No incidences have been reported in New Zealand, where 30,000 40 gram glass jars have been distributed since October 2003.
Merisant Australia is taking the precaution because we place such a high emphasis on customer safety and the quality of our products.
Merisant Australia has not received any reports of injury in New Zealand or Australia.
Merisant Australia says the concern is not the Equal product itself, but relates to glass packaging breakage, which is being investigated. Immediate action is being taken to introduce new packaging.
Other Equal products – including Equal Spoonful in 40 gram and 80 gram plastic containers, Equal tablets, sachets, liquid, and confectionery – are safe and are not affected by the recall.
Merisant Australia advises that customers should not consume Equal Spoonful from the glass jars. They should return the product to the retailer, where they’ll be given a full refund.
Merisant Australia sincerely apologises to customers for any inconvenience.
A New Zealand consumer hotline has been set up on 0800 080 597 and information is also available on www.clubequal.com
