Inner City Project wins two Mental Health Awards!
In April 2003 the ICP was announced the winner of the Aotearoa/New Zealand Mental Health Award in the category of
“partnerships in community mental health”. In September 2003 the project received an Australia and New Zealand Mental
Health Service Achievement Award in the category “Service Partnerships”.
The Inner City Project (ICP) is a community-partnership mental health service based in Wellington city. It is governed
by eight organisations in a collaborative attempt to improve the situation of mental health consumers in Wellington. The
project offers a prompt and flexible support service with a strong outreach approach and assertive follow-up. The target
group are people whose needs are currently not being met, particularly those who are homeless, transient or who have
difficulties accessing services. Over the past 3 years 42% of the people supported by ICP were homeless at the time of
referral. Individuals are assisted with finding accommodation, accessing mental health and medical services, employment
services, support groups, activity programmes, benefit, budgeting and a range of other services.
The awards are an affirmation and acknowledgment of the Inner City Project’s philosophy and practice of working in close
collaboration with other agencies and consumers through sharing resources, experience and expertise.
The Inner City Project is a innovative project that has initiated and contributed to a range of other relevant projects
and issues concerning the homeless and people with mental health problems in Wellington.
The project is inviting all agencies and people connected with Wellington’s mental health sector to celebrate its
success to date on Friday 21 November at 4pm at the Newtown Community Centre. Annette King has been invited to speak.
Her attendance cannot be definitively confirmed as yet. Please find details on attached flyer.
