Alzheimers New Zealand making a virtual fight
Frustrated by it’s years of championing the rights of thousands of New Zealanders to have access to anti-Alzheimers medication to no avail, Alzheimers New Zealand has now began a ‘virtual march’ on Government.
Today marks the first day of their ‘virtual march’. They are hoping that thousands of New Zealanders will get behind this and help them fight for the rights for all New Zealanders to have access to anti-Alzheimer’s medication, not just the select few who can afford it.
There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, however there is medication, Acetyl cholinesterase Inhibitors that are capable of temporarily reversing or delaying the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Improving the quality of life many thousands.
“The Government agency Pharmac’s stance to date is to recommend to their board not to subsidise this medication and this is not acceptable” says Karen Hyland, National Director of Alzheimers New Zealand. “Alzheimer’s disease is not something that is going to go away, it affects people as young as 45 and the numbers of those affected by this disease is increasing. We need to take steps to improve the quality of life for thousands upon thousands of New Zealanders now. Every moment counts when you have this disease”.
“There is no time to wait and I urge all New Zealanders to get behind this campaign and ‘march’ with us to make a stand and let the government’s agencies hear a united voice”. says Karen Hyland.
