Media Statement
From the president of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners,
Dr Jim Vause
10 October 2003
College will review membership
The College of GPs will review the membership of struck-off GP Ricky Gorringe as soon as the official notification is received from the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Richard Gorringe first joined the College as an associate member in 1983, but did not become a member until 1998. He did not complete further study towards Fellowship, which is the peak of general practice. Fellows, who may become vocationally registered by the Medical Council, demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and reach Fellowship only by rigorous, peer-assessed training.
The College has the power to rescind or suspend the membership of any member who has been de-registered by the Medical Council.
