Lions World Sight Day, 23 October 2003
On Thursday 23 October, Lions Clubs New Zealand with the support of OPSM and Visique Optometrists will be celebrating Lions World Sight Day.
We will be asking New Zealanders to dig out their old and unused glasses and drop them off at their nearest OPSM store or Visique Optometrist during the week of Monday 20 October to Sunday 26 October. The glasses will then be collected, graded and cleaned at one of two Lions Clubs eyeglass recycling centres and distributed to areas in New Zealand by Lions Clubs and to the South Pacific by Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas (VOSO), a New Zealand wide charity that provides eye examinations and surgery to South Pacific nations.
BUT, WE NEED YOUR HELP – to publicise what people can do and where they can go. Your support is paramount to the success of this collection.
Please promote this event in your paper/ programme/ on your station, including your community noticeboard. Collections will be happening during the week of Monday 20 October to Sunday 26 October.
We also encourage you to set up an interview with someone from Lions to talk about Lions World Sight Day, or set up a photo opportunity at your nearest OPSM store or Visique Optometrist.
