Discover new paths to fitness, vitality and wellness
Manukau City Council's libraries and leisure centres have combined forces to provide a free healthy lifestyles programme for residents.
Called 'Books Alive', the programme includes a series of free seminars held across the city throughout October. Leisure Manager Brett Jude says that the seminars are designed to help people manage their busy lifestyles.
"We have fantastic speakers such as Joe Fa'alogo from Pacifia Physiotheraphy, personal trainers Danny Nemani and Charles Taito, health and sports nutritionist Jeni Pearce, and Wendy Kerr who is giving yoga demonstrations. At the end of the month Doris Ta'ala's seminar will cover pilates and nutrition."
Free fitness assessments are also available from Council fitness centres. (Assessments may not be able to be offered at peak times so please phone Centres to organise an appointment.)
Manukau Libraries manager Chris Szekeley says, "In our libraries, expert speakers will bring books alive with demonstrations and practical tips. We have life coach Andrea Molloy who will be sharing her eight easy steps to success, Riki Bennett speaking on Maori traditional use of the forest, a pilates presentation by Raewyn Johnston and an inspiring session with Elizabeth Heath, a Cancer Society volunteer and survivor."
Many of the speakers have written books on their subjects and will be referring to them in their presentations.
Attendees can be in to win magazine subscriptions, fitness passes or aquatic packs. To qualify, you need to either join a Manukau library branch, or issue any library book/magazine on healthy or fitness or enrol in a fitness programme at a Council leisure centre from 6-30 October.
More information on the programme is available at all council libraries and leisure centres.
Health Pacifica Trust is also holding free aerobics sessions throughout October - Mondays 10.30am at Clendon Community Centre, Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10.30am at Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa Leisure Centre, and Wednesdays & Fridays 10am at the Otara Leisure Centre.
