KIWI WOMEN FAKE ORGASMS
We're doing it often in our country, but our women are faking it.
Results from the 2003 Durex Global Sex Survey released today reveal that almost two-thirds (63%) of Kiwi women admitted
they have faked an orgasm, well ahead of the global female average of 48%. Only 12% of men globally admitted to having
faked an orgasm.
The survey also reveals that frequency of sex is on the decline with the global average falling from 139, to only 127
times per year. Despite this global decline, Kiwis are still ahead of the global average and we're beating the Aussies.
Kiwis are having sex on average 130 times per year, compared to the Aussies at only 125 times. Almost a quarter of Kiwis
have sex at least three to four times per week (23%), while 7% have sex at least once a day.
When it comes to who's having the most sex, results suggest that the eastern Europeans may look to sex for extra warmth
in winter. Hungary topped the table with 152 times per year, closely followed by Bulgaria (151) and the Russian
Federation (150).
Surprisingly, the Swedes are lagging behind at only 102 times per year, down from 136 in 2002. Singaporeans are on the
bottom of the table for the second year with a low sex rate of 96 times per year.
Durex NZ Manager, Victoria Potter says more than 150,000 people from 34 countries took part in this year's, largest ever
Durex Global Sex Survey, which provides an insight into the sexual attitudes and behaviour of people around the world.
"We're really happy with this year's results, and it's fantastic to see Kiwis obviously enjoying themselves, and perhaps
sex could now be classified as another sport we're beating the Aussies at," says Victoria Potter.
"Results from the survey provide a fascinating insight into the similarities and differences between lovers around the
world, and show that Kiwis aren't afraid to be open about their sexual experiences."
Survey findings show that Kiwis are right up there in the one-night stand stakes with 64% admitting they've done it ?
well above the global average of 45%. Just ahead of Kiwis are the Vietnamese (75%), Icelanders (71%), Norwegians (70%),
Finns (68%) and the Danes (65%).
The survey also revealed that Kiwis aren't afraid to try new things to spice up their sex lives with almost one third
(30%) admitting they've used handcuffs or bondage as a sex enhancer. Up to 62% of Kiwis chose lubricant as their
favourite sex enhancer, followed closely by pornographic movies or magazines at 50%.
Ribbed or dotted condoms were voted the most favoured sexual enhancers worldwide by 39% of respondents. While 61% of
Norwegians have used pornography or magazines in their lovemaking, only 21% of German and Italian lovers have ever done
so.
Technology has introduced a new angle to the sex world with email, phone and text sex becoming increasingly popular, and
45% of Kiwis claim they've tried it. Ahead of the Kiwis are the US (54%), the UK (52%) and Canada on 50%. Globally, on
average, only 28% of respondents admitted they'd had email, phone or text sex.
In terms of favourite sexual positions, Kiwi men and women follow global trends choosing the 'partner sitting on top' as
their preferred position (30%), doggy-style in second (23%), and the missionary position in third place on 20%.
When it comes to what rings Kiwi guys' bells, sexy underwear rates as the number one turn-on for 23.19% of males,
followed very closely by kissing (23.04%) and a massage (19%). For Kiwi gals, kissing is also a favourite among 28% of
respondents, and a massage is behind in second place with 23%. Taking third place is the scent of a sexy guy, with
fragrance high on the list of a Kiwi girl's turn-ons (16%).
Whether it's lubricant or sexy underwear, Kiwis' love antics are making a difference with survey results showing that
almost two thirds of New Zealanders are happy with their sex lives (65%), a substantial increase on last year's 43%. The
most contented couples are in Thailand (92%), followed by Vietnam (90%).
When Kiwis are looking for love, parties appear to be it with 31% voting them the place to meet a potential partner.
Both Kiwi men and women view clubs and bars as the second most likely spot for meeting that special someone (21%), just
ahead of the workplace - where 16% believe a love match is likely to be found. Meeting a prospective partner on the
internet is becoming increasingly popular with 8% of Kiwis stating it is the best place to find love.
It was a closely fought battle for the titles of New Zealand's sexiest celebrities. Up to 25% of Kiwi males voted Mandy
Smith New Zealand's sexiest female celebrity, with Nicky Watson (22%) in second, and New Zealand's own 'Zena' Lucy
Lawless in third with 12%.
Once again, Kiwi gals voted last year's winner, Jeremy 'Newsboy' Wells, as New Zealand's sexiest male (24%). Next in
line for the second year is Marc Ellis with 17%. Local sailor Dean Barker, with 10% of the vote, is a hit with Kiwi
women confirming that he and Mandy are one of New Zealand's sexiest 'A' list couples.
The North Island battled it out with the South Island for the title of New Zealand's most romantic place. Wanaka came
first with 18.53% of Kiwis' votes, just ahead of Auckland's Waiheke Island (18.28%) as the place for romance, while
Taupo was voted New Zealand's third most romantic place (14%).
Footballers and actors might make glamorous celebrities, but globally the largest proportion of respondents (21%) see
modelling as the sexiest profession. Kiwis agree that modelling is a sexy profession rating it in second (12%), but
reveal they find the rugged professions sexiest with firefighters taking the top place (18%).
The more serious findings from this year's Durex Global Sex Survey will be released in late November to coincide with
World Aids Day.
