New Parliamentary Club of New Zealand Lions raises $4,000 for Kidney kids
The new Parliamentary Club of New Zealand Lions has been officially launched at a black tie dinner at Parliament.
To celebrate the chartering of the club, the Parliamentary Lions Club raised $4,000 for Kidney Kids with a charity
auction, featuring Tauranga MP and New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters as the guest auctioneer. Kidney Kids
is supported by Lions Clubs throughout the country with the Kantab programme. "This was a wonderful opportunity for the
newly inaugurated Lions to do exactly what is intended with this club - support key Lions Clubs projects and the New
Zealand community," said Parliamentary Lions Club's inaugural President Hon Brian Donnelly
Guest at the dinner were entertained by Phil Kingsley-Jones, who talked about the role Kidney Kids' patron, Jonah Lomu,
was taking with the organisation and its sister organisation in the United Kingdom.
The Parliamentary Lions Club is a non-partisan club, with members from Labour, National, New Zealand First and United
Future.
Labour MP David Cunliffe will be Club Secretary and United Future MP Paul Adams will be Treasurer.

About Lions Clubs New Zealand
The first New Zealand Lions Club was formed in 1955 in Auckland. Now there are around 500 Clubs, and 11,000 members.
Worldwide the International Association of Lions Clubs has a membership of over 1.4 million in 185 countries and
geographical areas.
The emphasis is on community service in all forms. Lions programmes serve the young and the aged, the disabled and the
disadvantaged - anybody who has a need. Programmes are conducted locally, nationally and internationally. They include
sight conservation and work with the blind, citizenship services, hearing and speech action, programmes with the deaf,
drug education, and environment, recreational, health and social services.
Lions' contributions to the development and care of New Zealand youth include living skills programmes, drug awareness,
an international youth exchange programme, the national Young Speechmaker Contest and International Peace Poster
Competition.
About Kidney Kids
Founded in 1990, Kidney Kids is a not-for-profit parent driven organisation that assists parents of children who have
kidney disorders. Kidney Kids provides regular newsletters, information and resources regarding kidney disorders, and
organises annual camps for children who may not be able to attend ordinary school camps because of their medical needs.
Most importantly Kidney Kids offers support for families through regular meetings, social activities and education
evenings where parents can meet with a specialist to talk about their child's condition.
