Counsellors, therapists, health practitioners and trainers will now have available to them comprehensive, up-to-date
information on a range of professional, ethical and legal issues of importance in their practices with the publication
of Counselling and the Law.
New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) is launching a major publication, Counselling and the Law in Wellington on
Friday the 26 September 2003.

David Carruthers will be the guest speaker. Author, Robert Ludbrook will be present as will a number of other
distinguished guests.
Counselling and the Law was commissioned by NZAC to address the wide gap in accessible information available to those
who work in the counselling and therapy field. It provides up-to-date information on a range of issues important to
counsellors, health practitioners, supervisors, trainers as well as clients. Note taking, confidentiality, supervision,
report writing, training, legal responsibilities and the way in which current legislation impacts on counselling
practice re just some of the areas examined in detail. Parliament has before it The Health Practitioners Competence
Assurance Bill seeking to develop safe practices for the public in their dealing with health professionals. This
publication is timely for all those health professionals and allied workers whose activities are likely to come within
the ambit of future legislation.
Counselling and the Law book will be invaluable to universities, polytechnics private training institutions and in-house
trainers as it brings together in one volume a comprehensive range of professional, ethical and legal requirements
related to counselling.
This is the second publication written and compiled for NZAC by the acknowledged Family Law specialist, Robert Ludbrook.
Counselling and the Law updates and expands an earlier NZAC publication on the law relating to school counsellors.
Purchase price is $39.95 plus $6.00 post and packaging.
