CDHB General Nurses Agreement
The Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) is extremely pleased to have reached agreement with around 2500 Canterbury
nurses in relation to their terms and conditions of employment.
This agreement (with the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO)) will assist in our continued efforts to build positive
relationships with nursing staff within the CDHB.
The level of support for the agreement is reflective of the CDHB’s ability to address a number of key issues in
remuneration for nurses. It also delivers in terms of the CDHB’s objective to address internal inequities related to
nurses employed under differing terms and conditions of employment.
The agreement is at the absolute maximum limit of affordability within the level of funding the CDHB already receives
and the CDHB’s budget. The cost amounts to approximately $2.6 Million in the 2003/2004 financial year - then flowing
into future years.
As the CDHB’s financial target and assumptions for the year were linked to its planning for health service delivery,
there is no impact on any health services.
The CDHB reiterates its satisfaction in reaching agreement. We also acknowledge the NZNO’s positive approach to the
negotiations and look forward to a continuing positive relationship with them.
