Daffodil Day 2003 appeal brings record donations
The Cancer Society is again overwhelmed by the generosity of New Zealanders as Daffodil Day donations head towards a record $4.0 million! This compares with a total of $3.9 million collected in 2002.
Daffodil Day Chairman Neil Chave said today that these valuable funds would be used to help the Cancer Society continue its support for people with cancer, and their families.
“The funds will also go towards health promotion campaigns educating New Zealanders about cancer prevention, early detection and research into the causes and treatments of cancer.”
Mr Chave stressed that funds received from a particular region would be spent on services in that region.
“People can be assured that their own communities will benefit directly from the money they have donated.
“We again sincerely thank all those who supported Daffodil Day, including the thousands of volunteers who gave up their time to collect on the day. A big thank you also to our principal sponsor the National Bank and all of the Cancer Society staff.”
Mr Chave said the Society’s priorities for 2003 included supporting the introduction of the Cancer Control Strategy, continued support of the ‘Smoke Free’ legislation presently before Parliament and key health promotion campaigns such as SunSmart.
