Fifth Recall and Destruction Notice Issued for Pan Products
The Minister for Food Safety Minister Annette King is ordering a fifth recall in New Zealand of products manufactured by Australian company Pan Pharmaceuticals Ltd. There has also been a partial revocation of earlier recalls based on better information received from companies involved. Directions for the destruction of recalled product will also be published tomorrow.
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority has prepared these notices for publication and continues to advise people to stop taking the products being recalled and to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
This latest recall contains a number of products manufactured by Pan Pharmaceuticals and stems from the receipt of further information from the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia.
The directions for destruction are based on serious problems with Pan manufactured products that have led to concerns about their safety. Expert advice has concurred with the safety concerns and with the impossibility of separately identifying those products that might be safe, from those that are unsafe. Destruction is considered the only appropriate course in order to ensure the continued maintenance of consumer safety.
Policy and Regulatory Standards Director Carole Inkster said it was hoped this would now bring the matter to finality.
“The Pan Pharmaceuticals recall has been the largest in Australasian history and has been extremely difficult for all involved. We are grateful for the co-operation we have had from people and hopeful that this is now the final action necessary,” Ms Inkster said.
The notice listing this batch of recalled products, the revoked products and the directions for destruction will be published in some daily newspapers tomorrow. It is also available on our website www.nzfsa.govt.nz or by calling the helpline on 0800 693 721. Hours for the helpline are 8.00 am till 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The full list of recalled products is also available on our website.
