The New Zealand Food Safety Authority has prepared a list of dietary supplements manufactured by Pan Pharmaceuticals that have been sold in New Zealand based on information provided to NZFSA by New Zealand suppliers.
“We believe this list contains close to 100 percent of the products manufactured by Pan Pharmaceuticals being sold in New Zealand. The list contains 642 products and is now on our website. The list appears bigger than it actually is because it includes some products more than once where they are sold in different sizes or quantities,” NZFSA’s Director of Policy and Regulatory Standards Carole Inkster said.
“We would advise people to stop taking these dietary supplements and either return them to where they bought them from or dispose of them.”
“We realise this information has taken time to compile. We have had to rely on others to provide this information to us,” Ms Inkster said.
More than 1300 products have now been recalled in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. In New Zealand we have recalled 1140 products. The initial recall in Australia of 219 products were not recalled in New Zealand as none of them were on sale here.
“It was prudent to recall all the products in New Zealand currently being recalled in Australia instead of waiting for a New Zealand only list. The list has been compiled from information obtained from the dietary supplements industry including suppliers, the National Nutritional Foods Association and the Direct Sellers Association, ” Ms Inkster said.
“We have received about 500 calls to our dietary supplements helpline from people concerned about products they may have been taking. Our helpline 0800 NZFSA1 (0800 693 721) will be open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week until further notice.”
The full list of products being recalled in Australia and New Zealand is available on our website, http:// http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz. The list containing only the products available in New Zealand is also on the website.
