Natural Fertility an Answer for Pill Scare

Women concerned about a connection between oral contraceptive pills and cervical cancer should consider natural
fertility management as an alternative says Judith Soper CEO of Natural Fertility New Zealand.
Recent research published by Dr Valerie Beral from Cancer Research UK in Oxford found that the risk of cervical cancer
was directly related to the duration of oral contraceptive use.
The study showed the contraceptive-related risk of cancer was even higher in women with human papillomavirus (HPV)
infection.
“This is just one of many surveys released in recent years that have made women anxious and uneasy about taking the
pill,” says Ms Soper.”
“We’re hearing stories every day from women who say the pill makes them feel depressed, and turns them off sex.
“Natural fertility education is a tool for life – basically it’s a specialized education service that helps
women/couples understand their fertility and provides them with an alternative when they are breastfeeding, when they
want to conceive, or when they are sick of the side-effects of taking the pill.
“We know natural fertility management isn’t the answer for all women but it is an excellent alternative – particularly
for women wanting to conceive.”
“People frequently associate natural family planning with ignorance and religious fundamentalism what we’re saying is
that all women, and in fact men, need to learn about their own fertility.
“We’re now in a new century, we can text message all over the world, dial up the internet and use cell phones - yet we
are still incredibly ignorant about our own bodies. A large majority of people still don’t really understand how they
get pregnant,” she says.
