MS Society Board to Consider Report
The Multiple Sclerosis Society was deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic events that took place on the 2 March 2003 during their fundraising horse trek event. The event has been run successfully on six previous occasions with out major incident.
A full report is being compiled to place before the Board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in early April. Information is being sought from night watch crewmembers on duty the night of the stampede, trek organisers and contractors, veterinarians, yard marshals and participants on the trek.
When the MSNZ Board have considered the report their findings will be made public. A decision will then be made on how they should proceed in making any changes that are deemed necessary to minimize the possibility of such a sad event ever happening again.
Letters are being sent to individual farmers in the area to thank them for their support on the night of the stampede and during the following day.
MS Board members are considering the possibility of holding a meeting to debrief those people who participated on the horse trek when the report is released. That meeting may be held in Rotorua, but the Board will be writing to the participants seeking their views on such a meeting taking place.
