RNZFB acts quickly to remove computer from Internet child pornographer
The Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind (RNZFB) is taking swift action after the sentencing of Internet child
pornographer, Martin Silby last Friday, 17 January.
The RNZFB was advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that Mr. Silby (an RNZFB member whose name suppression was
not lifted until sentencing) had leased a computer from the RNZFB after the personal computer at the centre of his case
had been seized.
RNZFB Acting CEO Paula Daye says, "Because of Mr. Silby's name suppression, the RNZFB had no knowledge of his arrest and
conviction for Internet child pornography until Friday 17 January.
"As soon as the Department of Internal Affairs made us aware of the situation we investigated the case and it was
revealed that Mr Silby was supplied with a computer after making false declarations on his application form.
"We will therefore be taking immediate steps to terminate the arrangement with Mr Silby and uplift the computer as soon
as possible."
RNZFB Chairman Jonathan Mosen fully supports this decision and is confident that staff have acted appropriately and as
quickly as they were able to given the circumstances of this case.
