Make A Bald Statement
Help in the fight against Leukaemia and participate in 'Shave for a Cure' during Leukaemia Appeal Week 12 - 18 November 2002.
Are you the adventurous type or someone who enjoys a challenge? The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation (LBF) is looking for people to get involved in a real hair-raiser - Shave for a Cure, during Appeal Week, 12th to 18th November. Anyone can take part, all you need to do is decide which part of your body you want shaved and go out and find people to sponsor you to lose their locks. Sponsorship packs can be obtained by contacting LBF on 0800 15 10 15.
Last year Brett Arnold of Auckland shaved his head and raised 10,000 dollars for the charity with the help of friends, family and his employer Stevenson Massey, who matched the amount he raised. This year Brett has laid down the gauntlet and is encouraging other challengers to come forward to try and beat his record.
You can either host their own event or go along to one of the official Shave for a Cure events, hosted by King of Shaves, and arrange for a public shaving of your head, eyebrows, legs chest, in fact any part of your body so long as it's not too risqué.
Shave for a Cure Events: Auckland, LynnMall, New Lynn, 9th & 10th November Auckland, Botany Downs Shopping Mall, 16th & 17th November Auckland, Big Boys Toys, Show Grounds, 16th & 17th November Christchurch, Riccarton Shopping Mall, 16th & 17th November
'Give us Five Campaign' Schools can also support Leukaemia Appeal Week by collecting five-cent coins. LBF is running a 'Give us Five campaign' encouraging the collection of all those five cent coins lurking in bags, drawers, glove compartments or jam jars, which go unused.
"All the money raised during Appeal Week helps in the fight to find a cure for Leukaemia and goes some way towards making a difference to the lives of Leukaemia sufferers and their families, commented Jim Hamilton, Leukaemia & Blood Foundation Executive Director."
To make a donation to the appeal phone 0800 15 10 15 or 0900 6 20 20 to make a $25 dollar donation or drop in to your nearest branch of BNZ. .
